Tammie C. Woods is an American operatic soprano, voice educator, and teaching artist whose work moves between the opera house, the concert platform, and the classroom.

Soprano Tammie C. Woods brings a career shaped by performance on some of the nation’s most distinguished stages together with a deep commitment to the development of the next generation of singers. Known for the warmth, richness, and expressive depth of her voice, Woods has performed with leading American opera companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, The Dallas Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Cincinnati Opera, and Fort Worth Opera.
During four seasons with the Metropolitan Opera, Woods performed as a member of the company’s renowned chorus while also appearing in featured bit roles and covering the strawberry woman. This Presidential Scholar in the Arts from President BIll Clinton and two time Grammy Award Winner from her participation in Champion and Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitain Opera, also includes participation in other productions and recordings recognized at the highest levels of the classical music industry. Her broader career encompasses opera, concert, recital, and ensemble performance, allowing her to collaborate with celebrated conductors, directors, singers, and musicians throughout the profession.
Alongside her performing career, Woods has developed an equally meaningful vocation as a voice educator. She is an adjunct voice faculty member at Dallas College and has taught singers ranging from developing young artists to adults. Her teaching philosophy centers on the belief that no two singers learn in exactly the same way, and she approaches the studio as a place of curiosity, rigorous musicianship, individuality, and discovery. Singers are encouraged to understand not only what they are doing, but how they learn and how their own instrument works.
Whether performing onstage or working one-on-one with a student, Woods approaches music from the same fundamental belief: the most compelling voice is not simply a beautiful one; it is an honest one.

As a voice educator, Woods works with pre-professional, emerging, and professional singers, helping them develop greater technical freedom, artistic confidence, and a deeper understanding of their individual instruments. Her teaching addresses the essential coordination of breath management, registration, resonance, and diction, always in service of the interpretive work that gives technique its purpose. Grounded in the belief that vocal development is both technical and deeply individual, she encourages singers to build reliable technique while cultivating the expressive instincts and artistic identity that make a voice uniquely their own.
